Base Quality: Step 3

DO YOU KNOW WHAT ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF CANE FURNITURE IS?

It is the Bases!

The base is one of the most important components of cane furniture. Not only do they support the cushions, but they add strength to the frame. At Cane Direct we use only hardwood (mindi wood, which is taken from the heart of the tree where it is denser and much stronger, and is identified by its darker red colour), where as the industry standard is to use cheaper softwood. They can not give guarantees with this type of base, because they tend to split after a short period of time

Pirelli webbing is used on our bases, which is universally recongised as being a strong and very durable webbing.

The bases rely upon the frame they sit in. See above the pictures showing cane dimension, quality and methods of joining frame and bases, this is critical to being able to offer a lifetime guarantee.

We use Grade' A' cane which is thick and dense enough to screw the bases into all sides and use cane noggins at each corner for additional support.

We use only Pirelli webbing, the best you can buy.

All of the above contribute to a frame that is durable and strong enough to offer a lifetime guarantee, which is not the industry standard.

Some companies also believe that you can offer better quality bases by using springs, this is not the case, if you look at the construction of the base and how the springs are attached, you will be able to see, that in a short period of time the springs will start to sag in the middle, unlike a lounge suite there just isn’t the support around the base to stop the springs giving in the middle. Thus again you will be looking at having to change your furniture in a short period of time.

ASK THESE QUESTIONS.

  • ARE THE BASES MINDI HARDWOOD?
  • DO YOU USE PIRELLI WEBBING?
  • DO YOU GIVE A LIFE TIME GUARANTEE ON YOUR BASES?
  • ARE THE BASES SCREWED IN TO THE FRAME?

BEFORE YOUR PURCHASE ASK FOR A PHOTO SO YOU CAN SEE IF THE BASE IS RED IN COLOUR OR PALE,(PALE BEING SOFTWOOD)
